Twelve months after its launch, the Niomoune program is exceeding expectations: 138 households electrified via 33 nanogrids, no theft or damage, and widespread adoption of prepaid plans. Here's an overview of the figures and lessons learned on the ground.
Adoption that speaks for itself
The mix of plans observed over the year—24% daily, 21% weekly, 55% monthly—confirms that households quickly switch to long-term contracts as soon as they master the usage. Estimated savings reach approximately €190 per household over 12 months, representing nearly half of their annual income.
Scratch card, Mobile Money, platform
Local retailers have seamlessly adopted the scratch card—a simple process, smartphone compatible, with a near-zero error rate. Mobile Money complements the system for remote top-ups. Behind the scenes, our monitoring platform tracks advance payments, repayment rates, and loan term mix in real time—the basis of a risk scoring system currently being industrialized.
Three key success factors:
1) A design adapted to field conditions (heat, dust, accessibility), 2) a comprehensive training program for resellers and technicians, and 3) integrated preventive maintenance from the outset of the contract. This combination explains why, one year later, the service remains flawless.
And now?
We are leveraging this experience to expand the model to four new municipalities in Casamance starting in Q3 2026. If you are leading a decentralized electrification project—whether as a local authority, NGO, or foundation—the Sud Solar System team is available to work with you to define the next steps.
